1 - BARCELONA IS THE FOURTH CITY WITH THE MOST SELFIES POSTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Ranked fourth in the world and first nationally, Barcelona is too attractive to pass up a photo! With so much to visit and discover, here are three places (according to the rankings of 2015) that you can find in the feed of anyone who comes to experience the city:
- Park Güell with 168.068 photos
- Camp Nou with 153.461 photos
- Sagrada Familia with 128.039 photos
2 - SPEAKEASY: AN UNIQUE RESTAURANT
Open in 2002 by Javier de las Muelas, Speakeasy is an underground restaurant that became the first place to establish a new concept - you need a password to get in! Housed in a warehouse that plays with the anonymity and luxury of the occult (a warehouse owned by Dry Martini), this is a restaurant that pays homage to the stowaways of the “Ley Seca” era.
3 - BARCELONA ALSO HAS A STATUE OF LIBERTY
Although the original Statue of Liberty is in New York, there are other smaller replicas of this sculpture that are scattered around the world - and Barcelona has one of them! This smaller version of the one and only Statue of Liberty has been housed for 123 years in the city’s first public library - the Arús library.
4 - YOU CAN TAKE THE METRO WITHOUT A DRIVER
Interestingly, one out of every four metros on line 9 is automatic. Thanks to advanced technology, these metros operate from an automated and centralized control system called the Centro de Control.
5 - IN BARCELONA THERE IS A SOVIET BUNKER
To the astonishment of many, the truth is there is a soviet bunker on Tibidabo Avenue. Covering 50 square meters, the bunker is in perfect condition, which can be explained by the fact that it can only be visited on certain occasions.
In addition, it was also part of the city’s former soviet consulate which eventually became an anti-aircraft refuge during the Spanish Civil War - a refuge that protected the city during bombings.
Were you surprised by all these curiosities? That is why you need to visit Barcelona and experience many of them!
